NEC plans huge telecommute initiative
NEC Corporation is giving nearly all its white-collar employees (90%) the option of working from home, becoming the latest Japanese electronics company to allow telecommuting. Employees will be able to work from home one day a week with supervisor’s approval.
At-home workers will link up to company via the Internet and are required to check in with their bosses via webcam at the start and end of the workday. In telecommuting trials since 2006, the company reports that over 70 percent of participating employees responded that working at home improved their productivity,
